The mission of GR Paddling, LLC is to provide safe, personalized, and custom kayak and canoe experiences in and around the greater Grand Rapids, Michigan area, utilizing local waterways as a way to increase appreciation by educating the public in the protection and value of our natural resources, and to promote area tourism through healthy, safe and responsible adventure activities.
Due to the customized nature of our service, reservations are suggested and preferred, although same-day requests may be accommodated based on availability (just check our availability calendar). If it’s a beautiful Michigan day, and you’d like to canoe and/or kayak, just give us a call to find out if a same-day trip can be arranged. Please keep in mind though, that we aren’t a livery and don’t operate like one. We do need at least a couple hours notice in order to load up, to prepare for your custom experience, and to have time to pick you and your group up at your location.
You can register for a trip by using the Book A Trip tab above.
If you need to cancel your reservation, no big deal, all we ask is that you please provide as much notice as possible (preferably at least 24 hours) either by phone or email so that we can make the date available for someone else.
Payment is not expected until the conclusion of your experience and while we can accept major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, and Discover), a personal check or cash is preferred. Deposits or advance payments are not required.
All paddlers will need to sign a participant waiver. Our insurance carrier requires it.
Our 2018 season will run from May 1st through October 31st. Paddling in the cooler Spring months can be very enjoyable and West Michigan colors are spectacular in late September and October. Especially when experienced from the water.
Trip Starting Times:
We don’t have specific times. We offer highly flexible, customized excursions from sunrise to sunset. Anytime is a good time for paddling. Launch and pick-up times are arranged on an individual and personal basis. Our posted paddling times are estimates; extra time should be considered for rest stops and meal breaks.
Number of Paddlers per Group:
In order to offer a personalized and safe experience we are limited to a maximum of eight paddlers for most of our trips. For groups of 10 to 16 paddlers, we offer a Paddle & Art option that splits larger groups and combines paddling with admission to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.
Due to our insurance requirements we are required to limit the minimum age to twelve (12) years old.
Unfortunately, pets are not permitted on our trips. This is a safety issue and not negotiable. Although we love dogs please plan to leave Fido home.
We mainly focus on paddling and sightseeing. Therefore fishing activities cannot be accommodated on our river trips. However, if you’d like to book one of our six lake outings, fishing can be accommodated.
Personal Food and Coolers:
Very small personal-size coolers can be accommodated in the watercraft and non-alcoholic beverages for hydration are highly recommended. However, beverages in glass containers are not permitted.
Unfortunately, in order to comply with our insurance policy, our DNR permit, and the rules associated with many of our access points, alcoholic beverages are not permitted on our trips.
